Some people are led to believe that God is hard-hearted. Due to things such as war, hatred, greed, suffering and death, some people feel that if there really was a loving God, then why would he allow such things to go on? Since they do not understand the truth about our God, then this can lead people to dangerously decide that either they don't wish to serve a "unfeeling" God that could approve such misery, or that there really must be no God at all.
In addition to such pondering, even some religious leaders can influence their followers to think that God is hard-hearted. When bad things happen, they teach that it was "God's will". Such an idea is supposed to make the recipient feel better and give a type of justification for bad occurrences. In actuality, this is, in effect, blaming God for the undesired happenings in life.
Is this really the Truth about our God? Let's see what the Bible has to say, and then you decide.
Please get your Bible (or go to your online Bible of choice), and read James 1:13*. I will share the scripture from mine as well, but I will always encourage you to read it yourself, straight from God's word.
James 1:13-
When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried, nor does he himself try anyone.
Now, think about that scripture. What is it telling you? God does not try anyone with evil things.
Additionally, 1 John 4:8 tells us that "God is love". Not that he simply has love, but that he is love. Can love be the source of evil or misery?
Job 34:10 says: "So listen to me, you men of understanding: It is unthinkable for the true God to act wickedly, For the Almighty to do wrong!"
The truth is that God will allow ( or not stop) bad things to happen in this system of things, but he is never the cause of wickedness or bad happenings.
Consider a parent allowing their adult child to go out in life, make choices, and live through the consequences of those actions/choices. The parent allows his/her child to live freely, and make his/her own choices, without stopping those decisions/actions. However, this does not mean the parent was the source, or cause, of the consequences endured.
Jehovah, our God, has reasons for allowing bad things to happen in this system of things, and being our Grand Creator and Almighty, he doesn't owe us an explanation. However, also being the loving and just God that he is, he gives us explanation through his word, the Bible.
He also gives us the only true hope that we can count on to remedy all of our worldly problems...forever. No human can do this. Jehovah can; and he is holy and pure, thus trustworthy to keep his word to us as well. So, despite the fact that he does not cause our problems, he promises to permanently fix our problems very soon, and allows us lean on & ask him for help in the meantime. What an amazing loving, God!
Thank you, Jehovah!
Psalm 46:1- God is our refuge and strength, A help that is readily found in times of distress.
Nahum 1:7- Jehovah is good, a stronghold in the day of distress. He is mindful of those seeking refuge in him.
Psalm 37:9 -For evil men will be done away with, But those hoping in Jehovah will possess the earth.
Revelation 21:4 - And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.
